What is Science: Static or Dynamic

It is an age-old question, Is science static or dynamic? There have been a lot of debates on this topic and the results have varied. Today I am going to share my opinions on this topic.

So, let us begin.............

According to me, science is a mixture of static and dynamic nature. There is some part of science that is static and there is some dynamic part.

"Science" is not simply a body of knowledge. Science can be referred to as an interactive and dynamic process of learning about the world. The basic 4 processes behind any science are:

  1. Observing
  2. Making a Hypothesis
  3. Testing/Experimenting
  4. Giving a Theory
And this cycle keeps on repeating. These can be classified as the FOUR PILLARS OF SCIENCE, with any of these missing or the loop being stopped science will become static (ummmm, which it has become to some extent 😅, it is addressed later in the post)

If we take the example of the periodic table which we all have studied in our schools. It all started from 62 elements but on doing more and more research and observing things we have now reached to 118 elements and this number would keep rising as time goes.
If we take one more example, then earlier it was believed that everything is composed of 4 basic elements, i.e. earth, air, fire and water was eventually replaced by the theory that everything is made up of atoms which are the tiniest fragments of matter. That theory then expanded to subatomic particles and not the quantum theory addresses the rules of tiniest particles.

So, this was all about the dynamic nature of science, now let us talk about its static nature. We all have studied Newton's Laws of Motion and Gravitation. Those also underwent this cycle a lot of times and after few decades there were no new observations as all the observations could be explained by the existing laws.
These have become the fundamentals of science. Thus, this started becoming static and till now there has not been any observation that has contradicted Newton's Laws and thus it has become static. Moreover, these laws are further used to formulate a new theory. On the other hand, they're a lot of laws in science (especially in chemistry) that keep getting contradicted and need modifications.

Thus, Science is neither static nor dynamic. Science is a vast field and we cannot classify it under one title. It depends on a person's perspective and the specific topic. There are still a lot of people who think that science is completely dynamic or static and they will always be as it is a very dynamic (😉) topic for debate.

I just wanted to share my opinion on this topic and did not want to disrespect anyone's thoughts 🙏🏻
