The Folk of The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton: REVIEW

Introduction

As you all would be knowing that we have already done the review of THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE. If you have not read it then please do read it because there are some sequences that you would not be able to understand without the knowledge of that book. Click here to read the review of Magic Faraway Tree. So, overall this book is about siblings living in a village deep into a country and have an enchanted wood near their house where there is Magical Faraway Tree. As the name suggests it is related to faraway places.

Characters of The Book

We have already discussed the characters of this book so I would just briefly tell that there are three siblings named Joe, Beth, Annie. This time their cousin sister Connie visits them. She is a little cute and very naughty girls. She thinks that she can do everything on her own which leads her to danger every time. She is one of those who put their head in noose just to look cool. Other characters of the Faraway Tree are the same as before who are Moon-face, Silky the fairy, Saucepanma, Dame Washalto, Mr Whatzisname, and thee angry pixie.

Characters in The Folk of Faraway Tree

Brief Plot

So, the story goes like, Connie comes to visit Joe, Beth and Frannie's home during summer vacations. She finds everything there quite weird just like Rick but she thinks of mischief in her every action. They take her to the Faraway Tree, as anyone living next to a magical tree like this would do. At first, she did not believe in them. She believed only when they took her to the top of the tree. She was also fascinated by seeing the people living there. The fruits kept changing every minute and the fruits which were growing on that tree were not usual fruits, they were a type of cross-breed of two or more fruits i.e. hybrid fruit. The lands which came at the top of the tree this time are, The Land of Giants, Land of Nursery Rhymes, Land of Dame Snap, Land of Tea Parties, The Land of secrets, Land of Enchantments, Land of Know-Alls (A Special Spoiler is waiting for you the end of the review) and at last, Land of Treats. There is no land where Connie did not do anything wrong. Sometimes only she gets into trouble and sometimes everyone. Lands and everything else was OK but something was not right. The Magic faraway tree was decaying, it started bending and the evergreen leaves started shedding. Everyone was tensed and at last..........To get to know further you will have to read the book.

My Likings About the Book

My views about this book are almost the same as that of THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE because both of them are a part of the same sequel. If we talk about twist and turn in the plot, then this one has more climax than the earlier one because the guest in the previous book was a little bit understanding and cooperative but this time the guest i.e. Connie is not at all cooperative.

My Disliking About the Book

As I have mentioned earlier I am very weak at finding problems from books. Then also if there was something that I found bad about this book is that the age group mentioned at the buying page of this book is 7-9 years which I think is not right. The vocabulary and sentences used in this book make it difficult to understand by a 2nd-grade student. The Age that I would recommend is 9-12.
This depends on person to person so you might think something else but what I think is as you have read.

Conclusion

This book is a great choice for beginners and young readers who like fantasy stories and a little bit thriller. Well, this one is not much of a thriller but then also it is very enjoyable to read this. i would give it a 9.5/10. 0.5 less just because of wrong age rating and nothing else. there is no problem in reading this book. It is worth buying.
