Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney: REVIEW

Introduction

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a comic-cum-diary-cum-fictional journal-cum-cartoon novel (Isn't it a lot of things?) written by Jeff Kinney. This is a novel written in the form of a diary. This book doesn't have a definite plot. There are various stories which keep changing daily. This complete book is composed of stick characters. Like this:

Well, we will discuss later who he is, but for now, just take him as an example of a stick figure.

Characters

So, I would warn you before only that there a lot of characters in this book but we would discuss just the main characters. So first of all, we have our main of the main characters who is the writer of this diary (which according to him is a journal) - GREG HEFFLEY
Greg Heffley in his innocent look with his school bag on

Then comes his elder brother RODRICK who always irritates and exploits him. If something goes wrong by Rodrick he would pass the fault on to Greg. He has his music band named LODED DIPER.
Rodrick in his famous elderly looks

Then there is Greg's younger brother named MANNY, he is just a few years old. He is famous for his comic innocence whenever something goes wrong.
So, let us quickly discuss about his parents. His parents are quite serious towards studies and the idea of writing a diary was given by his mother only. His father supports him for everything but his only condition is that he must do that work regularly and consistently. He even brought him a piano for playing but as he thought, Greg just played to for one or two days and afterwards, the piano became just a piece of waste furniture. You would get to know more about them by reading the book.

His father in his regular grumpy look and mother's "Thinking something new for Greg" look.

Ok, so now just quickly discuss about the last character who is his best friend -  ROWLEY. He is the most innocent character in the novel. Greg exploits him to do some wrong things which must not be done and the one who is declared guilty is ROWLEY.
You can imagine from his looks that how innocent he would be 🙃!

Brief Plot

So, as we have discussed earlier that there is not a fixed storyline of this novel thus there is no plot then why are you all expecting something to be written here. (LOL!)

OK so keeping the jokes apart it is basically a diary written by Greg Heffley without dates (i.e. dates are not mentioned in the diary, only days are mentioned). He wants to show himself as a cool kid in the school and be famous. He always tries to do this but fails every time. Every time he tries to become cool he just becomes a topic for jokes.

My Linkings About The Book

The first point is that it is very funny. It is the best comic novel I have ever read. It is a great choice for teenagers and pre-teens. The language is also simple, thus it does not create any difficulty in understanding the book. If someone is reading this book as a vocabulary increaser (the reason for which I read but not the only reason) then this would not be a great choice but for leisure and entertainment, this would the best choice.

My Dislikings About The Book

There are no specific disliking about the book. The only thing is that there were some jokes that I was not able to understand but it is not necessary that others would also be not able to understand. This my personal problem. So if I talk in a general way - As always, there are no dislikings.
If I tell about myself I don't find any problem in any book (Except for some school books!).
This is my weak point.

Conclusion

So, as a conclusion (the dumbest line of any review) I would like to recommend this book to those who are a fan of comic novels and like cartoon novels. This would be a great choice for children of age 9-13 (Well, there is no upper limit of the age but children elder than 13 years of age may find it a little bit boring). I would give it a rating of 10/10
